First Book Stories: The Cancer Prayer Book by Terri Forehand
It's hard to believe the month of May is almost over. I hope you're enjoyed reading these first book stories. Perhaps they've inspired you to write that first story and submit it. Today is the story of Terri Forehand's first book, one that I feel will be very helpful for many.
Terri has always loved writing and has taken classes at the Institute of Children's Literature, a writing bootcamp with Suzanne Lieurance and and picture book courses with Anastasia Suen. It was a chance meeting with the owner of Dream Words Publishing at a local Barnes and Noble bookstore that lead to her first book publication.
Mary Elizabeth was looking for writers to join her team to create comfort notes and prayers for specific diseases. Having been a nurse for many years and having a passion for those with cancers and chronic illness the fit was perfect. The Cancer Prayer Book was the first book in the series and her first book to be published by a traditional publisher. It was released in April 2011 and has had a great response so far. Almost everyone knows someone with cancer. The book makes a great gift for those going through from diagnosis to treatment to recovery. The book also touches on grief and loss in the case of a terminal diagnosis. It most importantly encourages and offers hope and inspiration through those difficult times.
The next book in that series for her will be The Childhood Cancer Prayer Book. There is always a need for more books for children of all ages who are going through cancer and treatments so she hopes this next book will help fill that need.
Terri Forehand is a freelance writer with a passion for children. She also loves animals, reading, quilting, and of course writing. A wife, mom, grandma, Terri is also a registered nurse, she has done nursing in a busy emergency room, a pediatric intensive care at a University Hospital, a neonatal intensive care, and in the homes of medically fragile children. She currently works at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana where she takes care of premature babies.
Terri writes fiction and nonfiction for kids of all ages. She also writes health and safety articles for kids and their parents. Her first book, The Cancer Prayer Book, was released by Dreamwords Publishing LLC.
